The Bear Trap Poem by Kevin Patrick

The Bear Trap

Rating: 5.0

You placed it into the bear trap
tempting me to reach out
That word which maims
Love
scurrilous shrapnel
Scarring with honeyed teeth
opened wounds of poisoned nectar

Taunting me and teasing me
With the bait
For affection
which your ready to lash
With the kiss of a whip
For the flesh you can strip
Devouring me
Raw
With those immaculate
Jaws

But I will not cave in to your lies
Beauty is just a vicious beast
In a gilded disguise
And Amorous desires
Are a bitter pyhhric pyre
When affection is short term
When the honey moon expires
And we're left with our demons
Who can't pay the bill

So I furtively mark watch my steps
Evading the carnal snares
Of the carnivores word
That breaks a man
And women's
Soul

In the end
You can never have
A broken heart
If you bury it beneath
The armour distrust

What a vivid depiction of fake love! Your detail and incisive words create images in mind a love founded on lies and deception. Beautifully expressed and crafted!
