The Box Poem by Khue Bui

The Box

your heart keeps beating, as you watch him from behind
you were so close to him, but separating you was a line
your eyes followed him, hoping he’d turn around
but you’re too scared to even make a sound
behind the wall where you feel safe, where you think you could hide,
you find yourself hurting, knowing that that hint of hope is a lie
your heart told you to do what felt unorthodox
yet you gave up your chance, and trapped yourself in the box
