Your love awoke my hollow chest to bloom,
A shining necklace set to softly gleam;
Light filled my face and lifted all my gloom,
And life was fair beneath its golden beam.
With happy thread you wove that mystic chain,
That held my eager neck in close embrace,
Where even time was caught within its wane,
Where only heart could speak its tale with grace.
But soon your tender glow withdrew to night,
Your cold neglect has left me all alone;
Those pearls that once shed dark and loving light,
Now hang like lifeless pebbles, hard as stone.
What once adorned my life with perfect art,
Now hangs a heavy burden round my heart.
