The Children Of Sri Lanka Poem by Jenny Kalahar

The Children Of Sri Lanka

Rating: 5.0

Children once danced in the rain here
wetted through to their bones
joyfully nurtured, cooled, restored.
Children are now buried here
wetted through to their bones
by pounding rain
seeping through ground and casket
paying for merely existing
in the wrong square foot of the world
for merely having some distinct nationality
or religion
or color of skin.
Children once danced in the rain here.
Now other children hide where no place seems safe
