The Climb Poem by Nicola (IG Nicola_JustMe) Pillai

The Climb

Here we are,
at this new stage,
different yet intertwined.

Yours just beginning,
mine searching for peace of mind.

Who would have thought we'd arrive here,
together in search of "oneself, "
new discoveries in our bodies,
while navigating mind, body, and health.

Just like a tender budding flower,
coming into bloom,
a new dawn for you awaits
in the wake of yesterday's moon.

As your body reshapes and changes,
your skin lighting up aglow,
a new identity to face
in your heart, new rivers flow.

Hormones weave their subtle threads,
a tapestry of mind and mood.
Emotions rise like ocean swells,
a storm of tears, then quietude.

The brain alight with fresh ideas,
a surge of feeling, a spark
questions, curiosity, and dreams
as childhood fades into the dark.

Simultaneously, in the midst of life's grand dance,
flickers of my reflection lost in a hopeful glance.
Here I stand on shifting ground,
where whispers of new change are found.

As you embrace the path ahead,
with wonder in your eyes,
I reflect on journeys past
beneath more seasoned skies.

Each step you take, a new frontier,
uncharted and unknown,
while I seek comfort
in the grace of wisdom I have grown.

Through the cycles of our lives,
we find strength the whole way through.
In every phase,
a chance to thrive,
to listen,
and learn something new.

So here we are,
both you and I,
on paths that intertwine,
continuing to recognize
and appreciate the beauty
of the climb.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The Climb reflects the shared yet contrasting experience of a mother and daughter standing at opposite hormonal thresholds of life. As one enters puberty and the other moves beyond it, their bodies undergo profound change—one through an influx, the other through a quiet release. Though biologically opposite, these transitions mirror each other in intensity and vulnerability. The poem honours this rare intersection, where two generations coexist in parallel states of becoming, exploring womanhood as a cyclical journey marked by connection, adaptation, and grace.
