The Coconut Palm Fair Poem by Richarrd Teh

The Coconut Palm Fair

The Coconut Palm Fair

This morning is cold but fair.
Does not mean I have nothing to air.

I had a series of morning lectures.
The lecturer happened to be my dear.
Turning on a pair of deaf ears,
I hummed "The Coconut Palm Fair".
Doesn't mean the lecture series is bad.
Just that my focus skewed a tad.
I need a song to my lectures address.

The Coconut Palm Fair

I am a coconut palm.
You can be a tropical typhoon.
You can blow and blow to my ears.
Off to all the stores and displayed wares.
Till the tables and chairs harpooned.
The villagers scattered,
Scrambling for cover,
Wet, shaken and scared.

But I am a proud coconut palm.
I shall be stuck fast in the ground,
In mud,
Trunk swirling with you passion blowing.
Leaves rustling with turn and toss,
Oblivion to all the bashing underneath.
I am humming and dancing happily to,
"The Coconut Palm Fair".

After all had blown off.
After you had lectures sorted and done,
Still dancing in the calm,
I, a palm of leafy top of an imaginative deaf,
As though nothing had spun, had swung,
Singing and dancing to the song,
"The Coconut Palm Fair".
As I will quietly dancing and dreaming away safely unaware.

Now than ever,
I am prepared the next series lecture geared.
