The Colour Of My Town Poem by Yirrbi JafferWilliams

The Colour Of My Town

Red

Was the kangaroos blood When Jakes super speeding bullet Pierced its head

Yellow

Were Mrs. Schofields gardens Full of daisies And sunflowers

Blue

Was my step brothers Datsun Faded, and old And wheels with no air No battery to spare

Green

Was Jakes favourite hat Pinned with badges Always on his head To give him good luck A Christmas present from his great Aunt Before he moved in next door

Brown
Were the sticks and leaves That crushed under your feet The dried up waterholes From the suns blazing heat The colour of the trees That gave you its shade

White
Were our candles In case of a blackout The old broken shed A blank page In my book And Mums favourite shirt
