The Conclusion Poem by Leonard Dantzler

The Conclusion

The Conclusion
In that instant, on your porch, my heart beat its hardest
My ears heard your feet fall upon the stairs as you answered the bell
It hurt to see you but it hurt more to just sit here
As you opened it, your dog shot out the door
I saw you look but you quickly turned away
You are hurting and you won't tell me why
Am I guilty? Did I break a promise?
I will not forget you but I will try
I didn't think of you in the same manner as they did and that you could tell at a glance
So why the sudden change?
But you're to shut off to tell me
The thought of you spilling tears has me hurt
What the hell happen?
Unanswered questions only lead to more unanswered questions
I asked, you said nothing
And I turned away with a wave of my hand
-------
Now this Superman has lost his strength and will to fly
My cape lies on the floor, the boots kicked to the side
The world can save itself
The man of steel is bent on flying off of the earth
I look beyond the stars and I still see your face
