The Contract Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

The Contract

It is for a life time
When two agree together
And they utter the word
I do; I do
It is for a life time;
Many bumps; many hiccups
You don’t need to be
Afraid, just part of the deal
When you look into my eyes,
What do you see?
Can you truly be mine?
For a long haul;
For a life time; the memories
The failings; the need
To forgive sometimes
For the sake of love
We have become one
Two intertwined together
Two souls entwined.
With their different shadows,
Fusing into each other,
Occasionally and wondering
Whose shadow it is.
It is for a lifetime,
Nothing can be stronger
When two souls are in love.
Literarily able to perceive
And recognise the
The thoughts of each other’s heart;
Such strong chemistry
Sometimes like telepathy
The knowing of the other;
Able to convey the feelings
And reactions of the other,
To a third party.
The companionship; the change
In us as a person.
The person you can call
My own; my lover
At times, we take
Each other for granted.
But, never fail to say
I love you.
Caring for each other,
Being the person;
The person you fell in love with,
Always there for each other.
A timeless love,
Forever everlasting.
