The Contradiction Of My Beauty Poem by Babajide Aina

The Contradiction Of My Beauty

Those l call role models are not spear
When they compare native dress to suit in my sunny weather.
Every corner they lash at my Africanism
My Dansiki give me freedom beyond bow and tie
With arrogance of ignorance, they compare my mother's training with foreigners ‘mother
only to know that their mother cannot die for them.
The gen z desire their marriage only to realize they don't have an elder to report to
Still they ask for court marriage where the right is taken away,
they do not appreciate my customary marriage where freedom is for both parties.
What a crisis where genuine identity is lost
Lost to the land of colours
Where everything is money and law
nothing is free even to have a breathing space without bills is beyond miracle
I am sure my culture supports me without money
My mother nursing my children without tax
I support my siblings without a credit card
My Africanism is rooted in family, where the warring world cannot kill. Babajide Aina
