The Countdown-18 Poem by Smrui Ranjan Mohanty

The Countdown-18

THE COUNTDOWN-18

Every beginning has an end
Not sure
Whether all ends have new beginnings
Or there are some ends
Which end in dead ends.

When the door was first opened
Pretty sure one day it would be closed
But how soon it happened
It seems as if it was yesterday
When I put my first steps
Now it is all over
I am just a few steps away from my last step

Things will remain as they are
The deities, the clock, the atmosphere
Everything will be as earlier
Only difference
It is me who will not be there
Someone else will be on my chair
And the chair on which I used to sit
Will not wait for me anymore
It will have its new owner
With whom it will talk, smile
And spend time as before

People tend to forget
Old faces, old memories fade
New faces take the place of the old
Old faces gradually disappear
And vanish in darkness

Does not matter
Whether I am there or not
Things will run at their pace
If not me
Someone else will be there
To take care
