The Countdown-26 Poem by Smrui Ranjan Mohanty

The Countdown-26

THE COUNTDOWN-26

What it conveys?
It seeks to say one thing
Only one thing
You are no more young enough
To take life for granted
Be careful!
You are on the edge of a blade

It says
A long ride on the bike
Roaming under the sun and shower
Eating dahibara and gupchup on the roadside
Late night in the hotel and movie house
Are but memories of the bygone days

It tells in its way
Forget the man you were
Take care!
You are losing control over yourself
Your mind, body and senses
Realise! you are not what you were yesterday
May like it or not
You are but a shadow of your old self

It speaks
Man! gather yourself!
Before it is too late
The attitude of people
Towards you are changing fast
Even your own are not the same

It silently murmurs
Close your eyes and ears
Shut your mouth
You do not have the will, courage and guts
To fight one more battle
