The Countdown-8 Poem by Smrui Ranjan Mohanty

The Countdown-8

THE COUNTDOWN-8

You picked me up from the crowd.
When you leave me
I will go back to the crowd
Where I was once upon a time

How pitifully sad and abandoned I was.
It was a lonely man's lone walk.
A desperate bid of a desolate person
For something to hang on
To make one's rice and salt.

When everybody turned a deaf ear
You came near
Graced me with your touch and vigour
Changed me, my life and
The way I looked at myself and others.
Life danced in jubilation like Never before and
I and my surrounding came under
Its spellbinding grandeur.

When nobody was near
Nothing with me
You touched me as a boon in disguise.
Things and people came crowding
Life became gorgeous, beautiful
and fascinating in no time.

I am afraid
When you leave me
I may lose everything I call mine
Things and people, yearning and relationships
The ground on which I stand
And the air I sniff.

No regrets.
A man of the crowd
Will go back to the place he belongs.
What pinches me
Is not the void awaiting
But the reality that
You will not be with me in Moments of agony.
In my journey in the empty lane
I will be a lone walker once again.
When I need you the most
I may not feel you anymore
I may miss you, my love! forever.
