The Courage Poem by Marissa Gertmenian

The Courage

Girl before the mirror
Tries to fix her eyes
She can't hide her sadness
She can't hide her cries.

Beauty is something strange
She knows not what it means
Love is but a wisp of air
To her it is unseen.

She tries to cover scars
But they stand out all over
The bruises and the black eyes
With make-up she can't cover.

She thinks about her lover
And he hurts her so
As she looks in the mirror she decides
'I really need to go.'

She packs up all her things
And heads out to the door
But before she leaves she loads her gun
'BAM' her lover is dead on the floor.

She tells him as she leaves
'I told you not to hurt me,
Now to hell you will go,
And finally I am free! '
