The Cradle Is Truly Submerged Poem by john o'connell

The Cradle Is Truly Submerged

the cradle is truly submerged
but the cot lingers there
in a haze of prison-like bars
painted faintly blue -
mother and child sharing intimately
darkening dusks
as shadowy phantoms dance
and flit on the ceiling and walls
around an open-hearth fire.
