The Cruelest Lie Poem by Kevin Patrick

The Cruelest Lie

Rating: 5.0

When people say
I love you
What they really mean to say
Is
That they love
The way
You make THEM feel

You see
Its not you they want
Its not YOU they love

Its the mirror
of their desires
A reflection for some perfection
To stroke their hot blooded egos
And fuel their vanity placebo
When their looking
To get by
On the next emontional high

Your just the thing
They want to wear
To make themselves feel good
And they might keep you around
For as long as you fit them

And then one day
When their tired of you
Or not the drug they need
Or a toy thats obsolete
Thats when they say
I dont love you anymore

Its the cruelest lie in life
Those bear trap words
The ones that always sting
I love you.

This is a stunning and brilliant portrait of the narcissist's mindset. And wanting to believe all the positives that may come with 'I love you, ' we offer ourselves up as victims. Brilliant work! This goes to myfavourites.
