The Cry Of A Patriot Poem by DOMINIC PREMPEH

The Cry Of A Patriot

Should we not apologize for not taking care of our families?
Should we not cry for the beloved fallen countries?
Should we not look back and clean the mess?
Should we not come together and surge to success?
Should we not seek the welfare of each and all?
Should we not work hard to save our earth from fall?
Should we not…?

We
Like the souls of ancient Pompey
We love sex, fame and money
We forget our real being
We forget we are a creation
We forget our societal tasks, every day
And, we forget we live to account for our lives, one day

We need not angels to come tell us what to do
And need not the heavens to resend manna
We need not to play the blame game to woo
And need not persecute a soul before we live, never
Our little breathe-filled lives need much
Much better than what we get today
For we have failed ourselves and nature

We are an apology of a custodian
Leaving the land to spoil and the waters to dry
And we are a failure of a watchman
Leaving the door ajar and the thief to run with our all, why?
We are that real symbol of shameless defaulters
Never accepting our faults and never realizing our follies
We live like old Pompey, yes, reckless and heartless

Pass us not oh gentle nature
Pardon us with the little resources left
And remember our generation of the future
We fear their world would crumble looking at what is left
Their pain will be more; very unbearable than ours
And their lives would be stressful; if we look ahead
Thoughts of the future brings fear; fear of a final failure

We need to tell our children what we have done
To what would have been theirs years to come!
And apologize without pride whether oral or written
In a somber mood to show our utmost feeling
I cry for the current life; and fear for the next one
I wish positive changes will blow like a whirlwind through
So that we all will live good
