The Cryptic Moonlight Poem by Kaushik Deka

The Cryptic Moonlight

In the silence of the dreary night
Stealthily creeps the cold moonlight.
Trees silhouetted against the grey sky
Tender silver flooding everything in sight.

Wanderlust has always been my mind
And in this hour it roams free.
Serenity is not so hard to find
As I am the only one to decree.

Lonesome and deserted are the surroundings
And through the darkness I glance,
Moonlight pouring into the dwellings
Where even the dark cracks doesn't stand a chance.

Suddenly I sense I am not alone
Creatures lurking beneath in their lairs.
Shedding their inhibitions they freely roam
Planning a hunt for their own shares.

Tiresome eyes roll sleepily
My vision sway over hazily,
Away from a face staring at me
A moment's flash and my senses flee.

The calm breeze now sweeps over the vast expanse
I feel as if in a trance.
In response to a ritualistic performance
I see the dark shadows dance.

But beauty leads our mind astray
And we need a mere reason.
So often fail to realize
Angels and devils being partners of a treason.

Far away in the distance
The old hills stand tall.
A silent witness of human existence
Has even seen the mighty fall.
