The Dance Poem by Rose Marie Cook

The Dance

Hands shaking
Heart racing
Blood pumping
Heart stopping

Eyes watching
Every move we make
The music beats
Time to take our place

Lights shine
Beads of sweat glimmer
Upon our skin
The audience waits

Their eyes fixed on us
Music plays
Take a deep breath
Then we begin

Graceful swans
Light on our feet
Hands graze the stage
Into the air we leap

The beat guides us through
The rhyme shines
Drums set the mood
All eyes upon you

Lights grow dim
The curtain falls
Silent follows
Applause calls

Hands shaking
Hearts racing
Take a deep breath
This is the dance
