The Dance Of Carmen Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Dance Of Carmen

that was the last time that i have
seen Carmen

her last dance
of the last scene of death

she was wearing the
purple tutu
white laced and glittering
on the dark stage
as she lay in that island of light

her right hand
touches the heavens
her left
waving goodbye to
the earth

it was the perfect split
and then she closed her eyes

all the
lights faded and what i saw
was this perfect darkness
