The Dancing Moth Poem by JDC LeDrew

The Dancing Moth

I knew a moth that knew so much
He thought he’d give the light a touch.
He thought himself so quick he could
Dance across the porch-light hood.
And then he danced,
My, how he fluttered!
And oh, the awful things he muttered!
He came to dance just once, you know,
But the porch-light wouldn’t let him go!
And so they danced the night away
“’Til evening faded into gray,
And daybreak left him to retreat
With tattered wings and smoky feet.
