The Dark Days Poem by Nidhi Jha

The Dark Days

Unexpected, unwanted, unseen,
Slowly with those light steps,
Crept in and became my life,
What seemed like unending darkness.
With struggles of hiding from it,
With struggles of running from it,
Started the days of torture.
With the sole coming out,
With the soul sinking in,
Ended the nights of torturous days.
There was falling down and getting up,
There was defeat and courage,
There was faith and empty heart,
There was an untold misery and an uninterrupted silence.
When the questions went unanswered,
When there were no hands to hold,
When the Almighty's presence I couldn't feel,
And when there was no hope,
I lived, I survived.
I could see the darkness calling me,
But I didn't go.
I haven't gone.
And I would never go.
Because I know that one day trotting and trembling,
I would reach the light,
And would be back to look up at Him,
And smile and say 'Yes I did it'!
