The Dark Side Of The Moon Poem by William Reading

The Dark Side Of The Moon

Rating: 5.0

On a calm starry night
The ocean opened its mouth
The surface rippled
And a million tiny waves were born, lived,
And died far away from home
The tragedy of the Commons

As the Earth turned
A man moved across its surface
Invisible from above
Disappearing under the salty liquid and light
Conjured back up from the depths
And back under
Then up again
And under…

Water on his body
Blinded the stars with their own reflection
He would remain unseen
Save only to himself

As he cut through the ocean
He drifted away from reality
Consumed by his own mind
His own universe
His own relevant and nonexistent time
An infinitesimal moment

This living machine
Powered on through the night
Conscious only to itself
Becoming one with his fins and mask,
With the ocean and all it encompassed
Entering the abyss
The chaos of thought
And he accepted it without question

Niceras of his being
Began to attack from all angles
They shot at him through the ocean
Exploding evil from fathoms below,
From the depths of his soul
He retreated below the surface
Surrounded, no way out.

His appetite for oxygen overtook him
Sensing his weakness
His own wicked beasts closed in,
Chasing his Heart

Then the surface broke,
Revealing dark, colossal serpents
Fixated on his demise,
But he merely kept swimming
And not a sound was made,
The tumultuous battle forever nonexistent

On a calm starry night
A man walked down a lonely street
A mere silhouette of life
Carrying his black fins, starlight still shining off of him
He pushed his mask up on his head
And his eyes were revealed to the Earth

They were like moons,
Bright, beautiful, and pure
Though he alone knew what lay on the dark side
