The Day's End Poem by Brian Sonberg

The Day's End

At the end of a bleak day
when the sun fails to set for you
and even with the sun there's cold
and skin stings when the wind blows
what do you do with your heart
does it grow cold as well

The water may freeze in the well
it can't stay frozen all day
nor can your soul freeze in your heart
not while there's someone there for you
you may not know where the wind blows
but you know it can't stay cold

But now you've come to love the cold
you start to feel alive and well
you don't care where the wind blows
the sun is in the sky this day
you start to feel it shines for you
and it warms you to your heart

There is a purpose for your heart
it shouldn't be kept in the cold
then you see her...she smiles at you
she takes a seat by the well
maybe this is the first day
the years scatter when the wind blows

There are always some hard blows
pain may find its way to heart
but every sunrise is a new day
you still feel alive in the cold
and she is there and you feel well
she holds your hand...sits next to you

You wonder what she sees in you
you hear her when the wind blows
see her where she stood by the well
she still holds a piece of your heart
just when you think love's gone cold
you wake up with her...another day

'Don't you know you still my heart? '
though the wind blows and it feels cold
all is well..today, a new day
