The Deeps Poem by David Smart

The Deeps

Rating: 5.0

Down into the deeps
The realm of everlasting night.
No day dawns
No sun sets
In the deeps.

Strange creatures lurk
Behind the rocks
In the crevices
Behind each bank of weed
In the dark waters
In the deeps.

No man has ever seen
The goings and the comings
Of the dwellers of the deep.
No man will ever penetrate
To the realm of night,
To the night without a moon
Without stars
Without light
In the deeps.

But man does go down
To the deeps.
In ships, in 'planes, and on his own
Drifting slowly
Never hurried
Are the dead men....
In the deeps.
