The Devil's Report Card Poem by Lili Gáti

The Devil's Report Card

Dreading what I was in store for

I stepped into the house through the front door

I pulled out my report card and shoved it in my dad's hand

As the TV showed a green onion shampoo ad

While I remembered last year's events

My dad's face turned pale in certain segments

Anger management isn't easy for him

So, his expression changed quickly into something quite grim

Oh, God it's not my fault. Please listen Dad it's true

I did right descent tests this year, you do remember, don't you?

Dad, you do understand right? This isn't my fault

I was quite convincing or so I thought

A couple hours have passed

The day was winding down and coming to an end

I was comprehending the fact that it isn't likely I'm getting dinner tonight

When I saw a shadow of my granny creep out of sight

Granny, please, just hear me out, the things I had to go through

My teacher has a loose screw!

And trust when I say after that last sentence I was just driven by fear

There were thousands of swearwords heading my way, Oh dear

She compered me to the Devil! THE DEVIL? THE ACTUAL DEVIL?

Well, it's not like I'm some sort of rebel
