The Dilemma Poem by Gianfranco Aurilio

The Dilemma

We looked at one another
our eyes promising each other
an eternal love,
which lasted just for a moment.
I could have stopped myself
I could have stopped you
I could have spoken
laughed
joked
loved you
and yet I didn't
and thinking it over now …
how many times
could we have changed our lives
if only we had tried
if only we'd had the strength to believe we could?
And in the end, we do nothing.
Is it better not to take risks
and live on fantasy
or to take those risks
and maybe die from disappointment?
