The Door Poem by Erik Gillette

The Door

Why do I stand here in the dark of this eve
Looking around for someone to feel some relief
Alone I stand guarding this door
It seems as pointless as a ship captain guarding his moor

Yet there I stand, finding solace in silence
Rooting for myself silently as a rebels alliance
Yet even then I hurt to know no ones up next to bat
Because how can I leave the mat of the door where for all my life ive stood and sat

And so here I stand this dark eve
Wanting so badly to be retrieved
Turn around to face the door that so long has stared at me
Turn the knob, open the door, and give myself to its sea
