The Drive Poem by Kelly Batson

The Drive

I’m lookin’ up to that cold starry sky tonight
Bout ten past twelve and the moons shinnin’ bright
Thought I’d kill some time and take a country drive
Clear my mind, remember and see if I’m still alive

Don’t tell me if im dyin’
Cause I don’t wanna know
If I can’t see the sun
Then maybe it’s time I go
Don’t wake me cause I’m dreamin’
Inside I can feel the screamin’

Not long ago I thought I had it all,
But it fell to pieces in the early fall
It was right around the time that he found her
I know I’m better off now that’s for sure
So goodbye my sweetheart,
Hello again my strength and a brand new start

Now its time I leave behind these lone back roads
And let go of my past and these heavy loads
Head towards home, the place I love and know
Drivin’ alone out here, there’s nowhere left to go
But when I get home and lay in my bed
That’s when I’ll finally get you outta my head
