The Dusty Road Poem by Ehsanul Haque

The Dusty Road

Rating: 5.0

A dusty road stretched on before me.
The day had been embraced by night
And not a soul was in sight.
The starless grey sky was spread like a blanket
Over slumbering heads after the day's work.
I stopped for a moment on the dusty road
And bowed to the gracefulness of Peace.

Where the road was leading me I did not know
But I walked on, filled with the serenity of the night.
The branches of the trees creaked and whispered to each other
As they swayed to the tune of the cool breeze.

I asked myself where I was going
And a voice within me said,
'Each step you take brings you closer to Death.
Count your steps, but ignore all the stumbles.
I am Life, I am the dusty road,
Surrounded on all sides by darkness.'

I looked around me into the deep dull darkness
And pitied what the dusty road said to me.
I walked on slowly now listening
Intently to what the dusty road had to say,
"There is no Loneliness in this world.
The winds are for the mountains, trees for the birds;
Lend me your hands as I am for you.
Look for the light, for no moment is wholly dark."

I could be patient no more
And I turned away from the dusty road.
As I walked on I looked up at the sky
And saw a bright shining star.
I turned once to look back at the dusty road,
Then walked on towards the star
With furnished hope within me
And full of love for Life.
