The Elephant In The Room Poem by John Beattie

The Elephant In The Room

The story began because
The Elephant in the room
Came and sat down on my lap.

But the heavy black presence
Was not too heavy or black,
For which my lap was grateful.

I couldn't avoid it now,
I had to look it in the eye,
And it smiled gently at me.

Is reality better
Than any imagined fear?
