The Elusive Dream Poem by Gerry Legister

The Elusive Dream

Rating: 5.0

I am going around in circles on a leash
Searching hard for this elusive dream,
Which always seemed out of my reach,
The closer I draw towards that stream.

Someone else snatches it away from me
And I am left lucidly deeper in slumber,
Waking up again to find another mystery
Calling fort gladly into a new adventure.

A test with another brief paranoid mess,
Helpless, my soul comes to sleep for rest.
To dream the unthinkable of happiness
Taking shape in another elusive request.

I awoke several times but only to find
far illusions, a reality that will never be,
Crawl out of my subconscious mind,
Like unrequited love that you cannot see.

I enter the unknown to a different path.
Fighting every night battle beast screech.
When the excitement numbs my breath
The tether dream remains out of reach.
