The Embrace Poem by Wally Gardiner

The Embrace

You never knew what you meant to me
the fates have made it hard to express
but now I share the memory
The night you made me know I was truly blessed

You ran to me and held me extremely tight
Your embrace was inevitable and sure
Your touch was like the inception of light
sincere, honest and pure

In that moment time stood still
The movement of the heavens seemed to slow
From deep within me I felt the pull
To let your light enter my heart, and begin to grow

And in that moment I came to understand
what life was really meant to be
By the touch of Grace's hand
I felt its meaning from you, as it flowed into me

And as the embrace was slowly released
I felt the pull of something new
A piece of me had come undone
A piece of me departed with you

And in its place an ember burns
It shall always remain within
the memories of a heart that yearns
the fading emotions of what could have been

Though destiny has kept us far apart
and this embrace was long ago
I found in you a kindred heart
that I would have been a lesser man not to have known
