The Empty Chair Beside Me... Poem by Ranil Gunawardena

The Empty Chair Beside Me...

There's an empty chair besides me...
The chair, your chair
The chair, your don't like to sit
As you selected another chair

I will sit beside this chair... for some time
for some more time... till my heart gets over the hurt
I know its only time... but I know definitely it is going come
The time I can push this chair away

I will never destroy this chair, as it is so precious to me
With your lovely memories, which you did not be a part of
But surely I will replace it, with a new chair
Where I will not remember, this chair at all

Give me time, all you girls
I am getting over, all my hurt
Give me time, to get your new chair
The chair, where you will be sitting beside me... happily!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is in reply to - Feel Alone - Poem by Ali Sabry
Being or feeling alone is one of the saddest places to be. You can have all the money in the world but if you don't have anyone to share it with, you have nothing. The need for human companionship is universal. In ancient times, people stuck together because they literally needed each other to survive. In today's world, we tend to spread out and live more isolated lifestyles. In some ways this is a luxury. In other ways we had it better when we lived in close proximity. Humans are creatures of community and need each other for companionship.
