The Empty Cup Poem by Antonio Giorgio

The Empty Cup

Rating: 5.0

What does it mean to lose something?
You need to have something in order to lose it,
It is a depletion, Love lost is the greatest depletion of all,
Love fills you, Your cup overflows and when love is lost the cup is empty,
Love does not exist in a void it comes to you with a face, a scent, a voice, It comes with a tender touch that lifts you up,
You feel as though you are whisked away on feathered wings,
There is a look to love across a darkened room,
That lights the gloom and penetrates your deepest thoughts,
Love comes and burns itself across the Vista of your mind,
And that is how you appeared dancing in the empty gloom,
With closed eyes and innocence,
Barefooted girl you lifted me beyond the limestone tower,
Swaying to and fro with savage grace against the tundra of my heart,
And through open lips you breathed into me your fire,
Lost in the divine wind you found me, Filled me to the brim,
So we danced, Pale skin against the moon, Bewitched by your tender spell, Kind eyes that still penetrate my soul, Soft fingers that still linger against my brow,
I knew then your truth, The purity of your intent and so I was suspended, Caught in your beautiful web, That was then and all that remains now are the vapours of my own imagining,
I shudder now with my new found emptiness, As you shudder in your lonely room,   Within darkened rooms revealed, Naked, To the heavy glare of mute benediction.
