The Enemy Within Poem by Tondana Fatimah Seebaway

The Enemy Within

I cannot believe this is happening again
I cannot go back to the black past
I'm losing myself going to the extreme
This is torture to my soul
I'm losing my self-esteem

Only yesterday I had gained victory
I had conquered inside of me the enemy
I shattered him to bits and left him in misery
Never to revive from this tragedy

But little did I know he
Still had some life in him
And little by little he
Watered his poor soul back to life
Appearing even stronger he
Was in for revenge
And here I was at
The mercy of this villain

But I must win
I cannot give in
To yet another defeat
I cannot drag my dignity
Any longer in the mud
That will surely make me go mad

Hey listen you devil
You only had the upper hand
Because I faced you only
With my bare hand
But now I come
With the armoury of my mind
You better have your grave dug
Cos I'm coming with the Almighty as back-up

Once again I won
This time around it's forever
You aren't coming back ever
Because I thrust the dagger
Right through your dark heart
And left you falling to the ground breathless

I am now free like a bird
Never to be manipulated
By your evil machinations
I have gained back my pride
And my self-esteem is restored
Yes! Cos I killed
The enemy within
