The Evening Light Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

The Evening Light

The sun rests at the top of the hill
Casting long shadows of the trees
Across the silent meadow by the stream
Girls have gone from the waterside
To light lamps and sing prayers as
The moon comes out shedding its beam

Birds are back into their nests
Shake wings and close their eyes
To the darkness gathering at the west
Lifting dusts from their hooves
And wagging tails cattle return
From fields to chew cuds and take rest
