The Fact, It Stayed. Poem by Lana Cooper

The Fact, It Stayed.

That day just came, and he was gone.
One day he's there, and the next he's not,
There was no time, no gradual happening or sight
Of what or how it would eventually happen.
It did. And nothing I can change of it.
Accepting it as fact and yet,
trying to live through it, a groggy dream.
I wish I saw, I saw it happen
For in my mind, it never did.
That day just came.
That day it came,
And now my air doesn't feel the same.
I wasn't there and I didn't see it,
I didn't know and didn't feel it.
The groggy dream is now my still.
That day just came,
And now with shock and out of breath,
I have to change my mind and take this fact?
I wasn't there, I was spared the pain,
Yet still I feel like I was robbed of day.
The day it happened, day that changed the facts,
It's there and yet,
It's never mine to have.
The facts just changed
And now I'm on the other side.
The groggy dream, it's gone.
The fact, it stayed.
