Way back when, when we couldn't reach the cookie jar.
We climbed up trees with our skinned knees.
Never thought too far...ahead.
Always set our heads and here and now.

Years later we'd chase each other
With the garden hose around the yard.
I fell for you hard.
I couldn't tell the future of my heart.

You might as well worn a suit a tie.
I shoulda just worn a ballgown.
Could I have this dance?
We could be the spotlight,
I waited for you all night.
You left me waiting in the cold..
We'll always be the best fairytale never told.

But the calenders piled up,
Our time ticked off the clock.
My whole childhood became a foggy fantasy.
You and me on the swing, just a faint dream.
I know the past was a long time ago,
But these strings had to be tied.
