The Gentleman's Life Poem by Aliddeki Bryan Mulindwa

The Gentleman's Life

I am too scared
to step into your world
of fancy suits
and tight choking ties
for I may suffocate
into agony and misery

I am too scarred
to wake up at cock crow
bid my wife farewell
and pray to God for forgiveness
of my unlimited evil deeds in actual continuity

I am too scared
to sit in that office luxuriously and pretentiously
My stomach growing bigger and bigger
the hair growing whiter and whiter
all on the expense of my fellow kinsmen
whom I say I work for tirelessly

I am too scared
young as I am
that through you I sprouted into life
and you are living this filthy life
yet you are my mirror
Indeed I am scared, I am scared, I am scared
of this Gentleman's Life
