The Girl In The Corner. Poem by Steven Harris

The Girl In The Corner.

Spotting someone you like but not even going up to say hello
not even making one move to walk up to her and say something
she stands in the corner with her friends talking and laughing
flowery dress, red lipstick and vodka and coke with the red of lipstick around the rim
bobbing her head to the music, her blonde hair goes all over the place
and i sit her just watching, eyes a little glazed and with a drink in my hand
not even having the balls to move over to her table to say hello.

It might make me a coward but i know what the answer will be
everytime i speak they all do the same thing
they either laugh and move on, say 'your not my type' or 'i have a boyfriend'
when will someone like my get lucky
not even a drink can help it
not even the drunk talk will change their mind and give me a chance
an ugly dude like me will never get a chance not even a drunk one.

This girl will just be like the rest
she looks like she has a boyfriend
a footballer or atleast someone with alot of money
not a jobless, ugly,5 foot 6, un-educated fool like me will get her
so i wont bother
i'll sit here, ignore my drunk friends and drink myself to sleep
i'll let the night take over and wake up tomorrow with red eyes and a dry mouth
thats the pain that i only want to feel
not the pain this pretty girl in the corner would give me.
