The Girl In The Graveyard Poem by Michael Walker

The Girl In The Graveyard

Rating: 5.0

She saw me walking all alone
From grave to lonely grave,
Beside her mother's tombstone
With flowers that she gave,

And then, she turned and spoke to me,
And this is what she said:
"The cemetery by the sea
Is where our dreams lie dead."

My hopes were dashed against the rocks
Upon a stormy shore
With neither gold, nor sable locks
My hard heart to implore,

And so, I turned and said to her:
"I will say a prayer
That God may guide and guard your heart,
And keep you pure and fair."

The girl in the graveyard
Can be no friend of mine,
For life is long, and life is hard,
And love is never blind.

The girl in the graveyard
With eyes as dark as wine
Must listen to another bard
For her treasure to find.
