The Girl In The Red Coat Poem by Alex Searle

The Girl In The Red Coat

Don't look back to the avenues of stone
Don't look forward to a life alone
Now I know I know the rough tide's gotten you down
So I'll be a shoulder, I'll be the one
At the water's edge
Put your hand in mine and

Let's lose time
In this loveless city of fear and doubt
Overrun by the people and the money
Who never stop to ask what it's all about
How did the world become so cold?

I can see now the day's here
She ran in the night, my dear
I'm looking for the girl in the red coat
Won't you tell me what I need to hear

Shadow and charade is the game of your name
In sorrow's dance, in tomorrow's chance
The heart of the blame
Now I know I know I know
You're not going to let me in
But I'll be a shoulder I'll be the one
With you on the ledge
So put your hand in mine and

Let's lose time
In some old fashioned way now
Forget about the people and the money
Who won't bat an eye even if you die
Why did the world become so cold?
