The God Question Poem by Laurence Overmire

The God Question

Who or What is God?
How do we define the Mystery?

Perhaps we've been looking in the wrong
Place, if place there be
The wrong time, when time itself is a
Fiction of our
Too-humanly-limited mind

Perhaps God is not outside
Ourselves, but within

Every rock
Every tree, every fish, every bird
Every bug
Every planet, every star
The Maker, the Creator of all including

Him (Her) self

Perhaps God is an Idea that brought forth
All that is seen and
Unseen
An idea that continues to evolve
Becoming the dream that is both

Ending and Beginning

We would be wise not to forget ourselves
Or fail to understand who we truly are
Not separate, not alone
We are the dreamer and the very thing
We dream.
