The Gold Laurel In The Non-Human Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Gold Laurel In The Non-Human

we are fooled
that one has no
face
no hands
no body
there is nothing
like that
here
but what is happening
he is declare
the number one
human being with
laurels of gold
on the head
and we all watch with
disbelief
and we still ask
why is this?

but we care no more
there is no need for
any explanation
i plant more seeds
and you sow more corn
in these fields of
all our endeavors
soon it will be over
we expect
to harvest nothing
and we leave this place
with a song in our
heart

we do not really care
we were doing it because
we all love to be human
and that creature
who got it all
is none of our concern

we are here
in another place
contented
and self-declared.
