The Good Shepherd Poem by Megan Lynn Schreiber

The Good Shepherd

He devoted his life to being a shepherd
Spending his days caring for his flock
He wants to build a fence to keep them from straying
But he wants to trust his flock to stay
His flock loves him for the freedom he gives them
And when one strays from the group
The shepherd stands waiting with open arms
Happy to see his lost sheep return
He cares for his herd, calling them each by name
Trimming their fleece from their bodies
And taking the burden away on his shoulders

His sheep do not fear the evil that stalks in the night
Because they know their shepherd will protect
They do not worry about going hungry and weak
Because they know their shepherd will provide
They love him because he is kind and loving towards them
Even though they are just sheep
He treats them like much more
And even though their fleece is dirty
He makes them clean again.
