The Greatest Gift Poem by Brian Swaine

The Greatest Gift

What is the greatest gift to give this Christmas?
What is the greatest gift we can ever receive?
What treasure is there that totally fulfills us?
What riches could ever satisfy our need?
What is truly the object of our desire?
What is it for which we hunger and thirst?
What is the fuel that kindles our fire?
What is it we crave foremost and first?
The answer doesn't lie in the pile 'neath the tree,
Nor can it be found in a neatly hung sock;
Asking the right question is always the key,
Because the grandest gift of all is a "who" not a "what".
The greatest gift that man could ever behold,
Was not wrapped in paper, but in swaddling clothes.
