The Greatest Punishment Poem by Hiba H Zantout

The Greatest Punishment

Lots of people think that the greatest punishment
Is death penalty, which is used for amendment
To deter people from committing crimes
And think about them at least 10 times

But what they didn’t see in this thought
Is the thirst to death that it had brought
Because their need to revenge is not satisfied
For the life of the man that has died

Where as others thought of an alternative
That is not for a bit considered sensitive
It's life in prison without parole
Where the criminals are controlled

There, their conscious will chase them
Knowing that no one will help them
Nightmares and rejection will continue
It is the beginning of a life that is new

A life filled with suffering and pain
Where tears fall down just like rain
That's how we know that revenge is fulfilled
Inside the walls of the criminal's suffering that was built
