The Guilt Of The Cat Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Guilt Of The Cat

from work
at night i feed
the cat
in the kitchen
in the
space of perhaps...

was i once a cat
who died
because the master
was killed in
the Roman war?

while eating his
fish
the cat stared
at me

as though i am
guilty.
