The Halt Poem by Achieng' Ochieng'

The Halt

</>I was on a journey……….
Convinced I had reached my Destination,
I stopped
Only to find that I was actually in the middle of traffic
Holding it up…
Vehicles were hooting, yet I failed to listen!

I was listening to my heart
My heart only………..

Then came the ultimate signal
In its SILENCE......I saw it
The traffic lights!

It was beeping Green!
In desperation to be honored
Time to go! It was screaming!
I eventually had to notice!

But….I thought we were friends
That’s what we were before everything else
And I thought it mattered

You should have at least told me
Though unworthy of your time, five minutes,
Wouldn’t have made me any worthy of it
It would have just set me free

Free from the pain and hurt
Free from confusion and lose of direction
Free from the anger that has built up in my heart
Free to move on........

But not to worry.... if u care enough to,
Though naive in matters of the heart,
My strength stands
Life has always taught me the hard way
For though I may slip, I will never fall
Thanks to His unconditional love

You seem ok and happy, I won’t lie that I am too
But I know I will be,
You know what they say……
Time heals all wounds.
Mine won’t be any different

Short and sweet it was
I felt special for the while
I know I still am even if not in your eyes
I prayed believing it would last forever
But you clearly didn’t care

You should have just told me...but,
I got it! !
